ABOUT
Mia Tešić (born 2001) is a speculative designer and interdisciplinary artist based in Vienna. Her practice explores contemporary topics through material experimentation, hands-on processes, and tangible experiences. Central to her work is the creation of dialogue, inviting new perspectives through objects and narratives that engage both mind and body.

Mia’s approach blends craft, performance, and storytelling, often incorporating participatory elements that encourage shared experiences and active observation. Whether through collaborative making or immersive installations, her work speculates on future possibilities while remaining grounded in the physicality of materials and the act of creation.

05 RECLAIMING THE ART OF HANDWRITING

2023/24

Reclaiming the art of handwriting is a project that explores writing as a creative and self-fulfilling practice in the increasingly digital world we find ourselves in today.
.
Non analogue methods of writing are progressively replacing pen and paper as the strive for efficiency is growis. So many things once solid are vanishing whilst the longing for tangible things and actual human connectedness is gradually growing.
.
With the aim to discover what it means to be quintessentially human through writing, a tool used for thousands of years, many people were invited to participate in this work. For this a number of writing exercises were created, designed to engage the mind and body in various ways. The result exposes the diverse personalities, ways of thinking, emotions and hand writing styles of the many individuals and leaves us with the question: is this really a skill to abandon?
.
For the booklet Scribbles & Scriptures, which summarizes the writing exercises, a special font was created from the handwritten letters of the participants. This was both meant to thank and honour the many helping hands that made the work possible. Additionally, the paper for the booklet was handmade, including translucent sheets specially crafted for printing the writing exercises.
